The Numbers traded four ETFs over the past week, finishing down 1.27% overall and trailing the S&P 500 by 0.42 percentage points. The benchmark fell 0.85% during the period. Despite two winning positions, losses in growth-focused and gold-mining ETFs weighed on the portfolio.
Long positions in the VanEck Semiconductor ETF and the S&P 500 Energy Sector SPDR ETF provided modest gains, returning 0.97% and 1.21%, respectively. The energy ETF was the week’s strongest performer, while the semiconductor holding also added to results.
Those gains were more than offset by declines in the long positions in the Invesco Nasdaq QQQ ETF and the VanEck Gold Miners ETF. QQQ fell 5.75%, and the gold-miners fund dropped 7.24%, the steepest loss among the four holdings. With both positions held long, their declines dragged on the portfolio’s return.
The reported trade-success rate was 60%.
